Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Ages 3-12)
We will begin a Level 1 formation course here at St. Isidore Church in October 2017. Formation for each level of certification (levels 1, 2, and 3) is about 100 hours. We will present, discuss, and construct an "album" for the presentations and themes that the children receive in the atrium. Formation courses can be a beautiful time of learning about our faith and personal reflection and growth. We will be meeting on the second weekend of every month, from 9-4 on Saturdays and 10-5 on Sundays in Bishop Quinn Hall. For an application, please come the the parish office, or you can register online here. Dates for the 2017/2018 course are as follows:
October 14&15 November 11&12 December 9&10 January 13&14
February 10&11 March 10&11 April 14&15 May 12&13
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a distinct approach to catechesis through which children as young as age 3 cultivate deep, lifelong relationships with Christ and the Church
Originating in Rome in the 1950's, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd engages children in age-appropriate, hands-on materials based on Sacred Scripture and the Liturgy.
"Though you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the child-like." (Mt. 11:25)
While beginning to educate children's minds in the faith, at least as importantly, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd helps them cultivate a loving relationship with God in their most formative years.
"Let the children come to me and do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these."
Young children learn best by actively engaging their bodies and all their senses. In the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, they work with beautiful, skillfully-crafted materials. Even the youngest children immerse themselves in this quiet retreat-like environment.
