Church Altar Care

St. Isidore Catholic Church's Altar Care Ministry, historically and formerly known in parishes throughout the United States
as the Ladies' Altar Society, fulfills the purpose of maintaining and cleaning the sanctuary of our church, including the altar and surrounding area.

Volunteer ministers are rewarded with the satisfaction and pride inherent in helping to keep clean the House of the Lord.

What Do We Do?

**Altar Care volunteers help on a weekly basis with specific duties in the church. Volunteers are scheduled in teams of 2-3 people working together to see that the tasks get completed. Some of the work involves filling the Holy Water fonts, watering flowers and discarding aged flowers, straightening books in the pews, and light dusting. The altar care work can be done on Friday or Saturday. Volunteers serve twice a year, and the schedule is made up for a year at a time. Early in the week check with rectory office for event son the calendar that might conflict with the altar care duty time, and then plan accordingly. Pick up the key from the rectory office on Friday, and return the key the following Monday. You are expected to find a replacement (there is a list provided) for yourself if you cannot make it. Training will be provided by the altar care chair.

**Altar Linens need to be laundered and ironed every week by a volunteer. The purificators used on the altar by the clergy and Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers for communion are done on a weekly basis along with a few miscellaneous linens, white hand towels and wash cloths. Linens are picked up in the middle of the week after Mass and returned before the Saturday 5 p.m. Mass. Volunteers serve twice a year, and the schedule is made up for a year at a time. Training/assistance will be provided by the altar care chair.
